My first destination upon arriving in Muar was the Sultan Ibrahim Jamek Mosque, situated next to the spacious Tunjung Emas area. This magnificent mosque holds great significance as a place of worship, particularly for Friday prayers, and can accommodate up to 2000 worshippers at once. Its architectural design is a beautiful fusion of Victorian and Neo-classic styles, incorporating elements from Islamic tradition.

During my most recent visit to Muar, I had the pleasure of staying at MUO Boutique Hotel Muar, which is conveniently situated along the enchanting Muar Cultural Walk. This boutique hotel offers an unparalleled experience with its top-notch accommodations at incredibly affordable rates.

As a seafood lover, I was delighted to discover the popular rooftop cafe that serves delectable seafood dishes. The breathtaking views of Jalan Abdul Rahman and the mesmerizing riverfront, adorned with vibrant lights, further accentuated the beauty of the streets.

To further immerse yourself in Muar's culture, make sure to catch a traditional cultural performance. The local cultural center often hosts traditional dance and music performances that showcase the beauty and grace of Malay arts. From the mesmerizing movements of the traditional Joget dance to the melodious sounds of the traditional Gamelan music, these performances will leave you captivated and in awe of Muar's cultural heritage.

Indulging in Muar's Gastronomic Delicacies

Starting your day with a visit to Kopi34 is a must-visit experience to enjoy the authentic coffee (kopi) flavors of Muar. The breakfast menu offers many popular dishes including Kaya toast and noodle dishes. The cafe is normally packed with regulars who like the amazing service and flavors of Elephant Bean Coffee brew specific to the region. 

A trip to Muar would not be complete without indulging in the mouthwatering delicacies at the renowned Bantayan Hawker night market. Here, you can savor a wide variety of hawker dishes, ranging from the flavorful otak-otak and succulent satay chicken to the refreshing rojak and hearty mee Bandung.

As the clock strikes 7 pm, the venue becomes bustling with eager customers, and navigating through the counters to order and collect your food might pose a challenge. However, the delectable flavors of the dishes make every effort worthwhile. I couldn't resist the savory otak otak, a delectable fish cake wrapped in fragrant banana leaves. 

Be sure to indulge in the mouthwatering delights of the popular Cheung Fun stall, where you can savor the delicious combination of succulent shrimp, delicate flat rice sheets, and a sprinkle of seasoned seeds and sweet soy sauce. Don't miss out on this delightful treat!

Another must-try dish in Muar is the mee bandung, a hearty noodle soup that is packed with flavors. Made with a rich broth, tender beef, and an array of spices, this dish is a local favorite and is sure to tantalize your taste buds. For those with a sweet tooth, don't miss out on the famous Muar chee, a chewy and sticky snack made from glutinous rice coated with crushed peanuts and sugar. It's the perfect treat to satisfy your sweet cravings.

In addition to these local delicacies, Muar is also known for its seafood. Head to the local seafood restaurants along the riverfront and indulge in fresh and succulent seafood dishes. From grilled prawns to steamed fish, you'll be spoilt for choice. Pair your meal with refreshing coconut water or a glass of teh tarik, a traditional pulled tea that is rich and creamy. The atmosphere is lively and festive, with locals and visitors coming together to break their fast and enjoy the delicious food.
